What is Trojan Steel? 

​

Trojan Steel aims to make exercise into a community-building activity, educate students who may not know how to fully utilize the weight room and encourage students to make exercise a daily part of their lifestyle. This is NOT a competitive lifting club: instead, our objective is to help students establish healthy habits and improve themselves.

            PHYSICAL HEALTH

 

The benefits of weight training on physical health are numerous! Don't believe us? Check out these benefits:

3. Boosts metabolism and fat loss

4. Regulates insulin and lowers inflammation

5. Improves posture, sleep, energy

            MENTAL HEALTH

 

During strength training, hormone and hormone-like substance production is increased, allowing the brain to change in structure and function. 

​

Changes in connectivity and structures within the brain lead to improved mental clarity and even, yes, increased mindfulness. 

​

Mindfulness refers to self reflection and understanding that present feelings come and go. This is surprisingly similar to weight training, where lifting a heavy weight in your set leaves you no choice but to focus on your body in the present moment. The key is when you choose not to give up and push through to the end of the set. 

            STEEL SHARPENS STEEL

 

The name Steel Sharpens Steel came from the Bible verse, Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so does one person sharpen another.” The goal of Steel Sharpens Steel is to build a personal fitness community where students can push each other to improve themselves.
